Sec. 19-458. - "Exclusive Bus Lanes" and "Buses and Right Turns Only Lanes" established.

The city manager is hereby authorized to restrict right curb traffic lanes of public streets for the exclusive use of passenger buses, or for buses and right turns only at locations the city council shall determine to be beneficial and convenient to the public, and in addition, is authorized to erect signs stating "Buses Only" or "Buses and Right Turns Only" in accordance with such determination of the city council, and to paint instructional markings on the street to notify drivers of non-bus vehicles to enter the bus lane only to make a right turn within five hundred (500) feet where such use of the right lane is permitted.

Sec. 19-459. - Definitions.

Bus shall mean a motor vehicle designed to carry twenty (20) or more passengers and used to transport persons for compensation, including sightseeing tour buses.

Bus Lane and Bus and Right Turn Lane shall mean the right curb lane for the traffic traveling from the intersecting street first mentioned to the second intersecting street mentioned in each of the below described "bus and right turn lane" and "exclusive bus lane" locations.

Sec. 19-460. - "Bus and Right Turn Lane" locations established.

Bus and right turn lanes are hereby approved for and established on the following streets:

Navarro Street, from Nueva Street to Martin Street;

St. Mary's Street, from Navarro Street to Nueva Street;

Commerce Street, from Alamo Street to Santa Rosa Street;

Dolorosa and Market Streets, from Santa Rosa to Alamo Street.

Sec. 19-461. - "Exclusive Bus Lane" locations established.

Exclusive bus lanes are hereby established for the following locations:

Navarro Street, from Main Avenue to St. Mary's Street;

Alamo Plaza, from Houston Street to Commerce Street.

Sec. 19-462. - Penalty for unauthorized use.

Any person who drives a vehicle other than a bus in a bus lane where prohibited, or who drives for a distance of more than five hundred (500) feet without turning right where right turn within five hundred (500) feet are permitted, shall be guilty of a Class C misdemeanor and, upon conviction, shall be fined not less than one dollar ($1.00) nor more than two hundred dollars ($200.00).
