Sec. 29-71. - General; purpose.
The City of Newport News owns and controls the Virginia War Museum located in Huntington Park, including its buildings, fixtures, and historical materials and objects. The museum exists to study, preserve, document, disseminate and exhibit U.S. military history since 1775; Virginia's role in this history; and the impact of war upon American social, technological, political and economic life. The purpose of this article is to set forth general regulations concerning the operation and use of this unique resource.

The director of parks and recreation, under the supervision of the city manager, shall have general management and control over the operation of the Virginia War Museum.

Sec. 29-73. - Maintenance, repairs and alterations.
All alterations, repairs and maintenance of the Virginia War Museum building, fixtures, exhibits and historical collections shall be under the direction and supervision of the city through the city manager and the department of parks and recreation.

Sec. 29-74. - Authorized uses of building.
The Virginia War Museum building shall not be used or permitted to be used by any person for any purpose other than that of a museum studying U.S. military history nor shall it be used as a place of general meeting or assembly for objects or purposes not related to the stated purpose of the Virginia War Museum. Permitted use shall specifically include use by The War Memorial Museum Foundation, Inc., as it pursues its support activities for the museum.

The restrooms located within the Virginia War Museum building are available only to the patrons of the museum itself.

Sec. 29-76. - Charges for access and use.
The city manager is authorized to establish a schedule of charges for admission and program attendance for public access and use of the museum.
