8.12.010 Short title.
The ordinance codified in this chapter shall be known as, and may be cited
and referred to as the “automobile wrecker ordinance.” (Ord. 8155
§ 3 (part), 1962: Ord. 8125 § 1, 1961.)
8.12.020 Statutory authority.
The ordinance codified in this chapter is adopted pursuant to the
provisions of Section 11520 of the California Vehicle Code. (Ord. 8155 § 2

8.12.030 Acquisition of vehicle--Notification to county required.
Every automobile wrecker licensed as such who obtains actual possession of
a vehicle subject to registration pursuant to the California Vehicle Code, for
the purpose of wrecking or dismantling the same shall, within 24 hours after the
acquisition of such vehicle, notify the sheriff of the county of Los Angeles of
such acquisition. (Ord. 8155 § 2 (part), 1962: Ord. 8125 § 2,

8.12.040 Acquisition of vehicle parts and accessories--Report required.
Every automobile wrecker licensed as such, within 24 hours after the
acquisition thereof, shall report to sheriff, on a form provided by the sheriff,
the acquisition by such automobile wrecker of all loose vehicle parts and other
motor vehicle accessories except such as are obtained from vehicles wrecked by
the same automobile wrecker, and except such as are acquired from other duly
licensed automobile wreckers. (Ord. 8155 § 3 (part), 1962: Ord. 8125 §

8.12.050 Notification forms for vehicles.
In so notifying the sheriff, the automobile wrecker shall use a copy of
the form prescribed for such purpose by the Division of Registration of the
Department of Motor Vehicles of the state of California. Such form shall contain
the information required by the Department of Motor Vehicles. (Ord. 8155 §

8.12.060 Report forms for parts and accessories.
The sheriff shall prepare and deliver to all duly licensed automobile
wreckers requesting the same forms on which to report the acquisition of loose
vehicle parts and other accessories. Every automobile wrecker who is required by
this chapter to report the acquisition of loose vehicle parts or other
automobile accessories shall obtain such forms from the sheriff and shall use
such forms in reporting such acquisitions. (Ord. 8155 § 3 (part), 1962:

8.12.070 Violation--Penalty.
Violation of this chapter is punishable by a fine of not to exceed
$500.00, or by imprisonment in the County Jail for not to exceed six months, or
by both such fine and imprisonment. On each separate day or any portion thereof
during which any violation of this chapter occurs or continues, such violation
constitutes a separate offense, and upon conviction thereof shall be punishable
