8.20.010 Definitions.

As used in this chapter:
A. “Hotel” means and includes a lodging house, rooming house or other building or structure maintained, advertised, or held out to the public as a place where sleeping or rooming accommodations are furnished to the whole or any part of the public, whether with or without meals, but does not include any auto and trailer camp or auto court or resort.
B. “Peace officer” means a peace officer as defined in Section 817 of the Penal Code of the state of California.
C. “Person” means and includes every person, firm, partnership and corporation. (Ord. 6876 §§ 1--3, 1956.)

8.20.020 Hotel--Guest register required.

Every person who owns or operates a hotel shall keep a register in which shall be entered the name and address of each guest. (Ord. 6876 § 4, 1956.)

8.20.030 Auto court or resort--Guest register required.

Every person who owns or operates an auto court or resort, as those terms are defined in Section 18501 of the Health and Safety Code, shall keep a register in which shall be entered the name and address of each guest whose name is not required to be registered by Section 18875 of the Health and Safety Code. (Ord. 6876 § 5, 1956.)

8.20.040 Register to be kept for three years.

Every person who owns or operates a hotel, auto and trailer camp, or auto court or resort shall keep the register, which is required by Sections 8.20.020 and 8.20.030, and by Sections 18450 and 18875 of the Health and Safety Code, available and in good condition for a period of not less than three years from the entry of each name and address of each guest. (Ord. 6876 § 6, 1956.)

8.20.050 Inspection of registers authorized when.

Every peace officer shall have access to and right to inspect at any time any register kept by any hotel pursuant to Section 8.20.020, any register kept in any auto camp and resort pursuant to Section 8.20.030, and any register kept in any auto and trailer camp pursuant to Section 18450 of the Health and Safety Code, and any register in any auto court and resort kept pursuant to Section 18875 of the Health and Safety Code. 8.20.060 Preventing register inspection deemed misdemeanor--Penalty.

Every person, including but not confined to the operator or owner of any hotel, auto and trailer camp or auto court and resort, who denies or prevents, obstructs or attempts to deny, prevent or obstruct, any peace officer in the examination of any register referred to in this chapter is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by not more than six months imprisonment in the County Jail or by a fine of not exceeding $500.00, or both such fine and imprisonment.
