Article VIII. - Protection Dog Operators.


Sec. 5-90. - Protection dog operator and employee registration required.

No person shall transact, conduct, operate or otherwise carry on business as a protection dog operator or serve as an employee of same without first registering pursuant to the provisions of this article.

Sec. 5-91. - Application for registration.

Application for registration as a protection dog operator or as an employee of same shall be made in writing to the director by the person to be registered. Such application shall be on a form approved by the director and shall be accompanied by a registration fee, the amount of which shall be established pursuant to Section 5-4, and a copy of such person's state identification card.

Sec. 5-92. - Action on application.

Upon receipt of an application for registration as a protection dog operator or as an employee of same, the director shall review the application. If the director finds that the requirements of this article and state law have been complied with, the director shall register the protection dog operator or his or her employee in the records of the director and issue a registration certificate to such person, indicating thereon whether the person is a protection dog operator or an employee of same. If the director finds otherwise, the director shall not register the person until the noncompliance is corrected.

Sec. 5-93. - Expiration and renewal of registration certificate.

Every registration certificate issued pursuant to this article shall be annual, expiring on the last day of December next following its date of issue. The procedure for renewal of a registration certificate shall be the same as for obtaining an original certificate. If any protection dog operator or any employee of same fails to make application for the renewal of his or her registration certificate within sixty (60) days after its expiration, or prior thereto, such person shall pay a penalty for late renewal, the amount of which shall be established pursuant to Section 5-4, in addition to the registration fee required in Section 5-91.

Sec. 5-94. - Registration certificate not transferable.

No registration certificate issued pursuant to this article shall be transferable.
